Review- How to Look Good Naked

When I first saw the commercials for How to Look Good Naked, I blew it off initially. I don’t know what I thought the show was supposed to be about, but after seeing the commercial several more times, I started understanding what the point of the show was supposed to be, and I knew I wanted to check it out.

If you haven’t seen or heard about this show, let me catch you up. Carson Kressley takes women who, for various reasons, are unhappy with how they look. These are all real women, built like you and me. (In fact, the show makes a point of driving that home every time.) Some of them have been told they were fat or ugly; one of them felt ugly after overcoming a major disease. Through a series of steps, he helps them move from self-hating to realizing they are actually a beautiful woman. And it’s not overly sappy (which is why I’m still watching!)

In each episode, the woman is asked to tell Kressley what they feel are their problem zones. He then helps them see that what they see as a problem zone really isn’t. Then the woman gets tips on how to dress to show off what makes her beautiful (from undergarments all the way through cute outfits), and she gets a hair/make-up makeover. Kressley tells them at the makeover that they’re going to do a photo shoot, and suggests they do it naked. (These women are far braver than I will ever be.) The photo shoots are actually fairly tasteful, and the woman has a wonderful time. It’s really a journey from misconception to realizing that it’s okay to be yourself.

If you haven’t seen the show, it’s on tonight on Lifetime. I understand iTunes is also now carrying the episodes, as well. Make a point of finding an episode or three and watching them. It’s honestly one of Lifetime’s best offerings in the history of the channel.
