Hey, maybe I am a wordsmith

I guess it’s fair to say I’m an odd girl. I’ve always liked learning new words and phrases, and I love learning where those words and phrases came from. It often makes remembering the phrase easier, and it can be helpful when explaining phrases to people who have never heard them before, or math students who are having trouble remembering how to work with a concept. (Honestly, the “per cent” really means “out of 100″ conversation has been one of the most useful weapons in my teaching arsenal…especially this week.)
I just chalk it up to my thirst for knowledge, but others have decided I’m just a wordsmith. I always thought that word meant “one who puts words together”, as a smith is one who works on something. It turns out I needed to do a little more research.

While a wordsmith can be one who writes (and I do write. Quite a bit, actually.), it can also be someone who is very knowledgeable about words (which I am). It looks like I am, in fact, a wordsmith. I like words. They’re fun.
