What a difference a year makes

That’s not actually a true statement. It’s been a couple of years, and this is just the first time I’ve noticed.

When I first did NaNoWriMo in 2002, it was like pulling teeth to hit 1,700 words each day. It was the exact same way in 2003 and 2004. In early 2005, I told myself I was going to work on just writing for two solid hours a day in preparation for NaNoWriMo. It didn’t work out, and I was still having trouble making word count most days.

Early 2006 was when I actually started pulling out my old writings, finishing them up, and polishing them up. I probably spent a minimum of ten hours a week doing nothing but writing and editing in some way, shape, or form. So when NaNoWriMo rolled around last year, I had a series of 5,000-word days before real life intervened and slowed me down.

This year, it’s just another day at the computer when I sit down and turn out anywhere from 3,000 to 8,000 words. I’m going to type the 25,000th word this afternoon, and it’s only November 7. I even gave myself permission to not write on Monday because my schedule was too crazy. Halfway, one week in.

And it’s just a normal day for me.

Amazing.
