A Bad Seed to Sow- Eric Stuart Band

It’s been forever since I’ve shared some song lyrics over here, but I recently introduced a new friend to this song and kind of felt the need to share it with more people. Take a lesson from it if you like….

(shared without the band’s permission, but ESB is more than welcome to tell me to pull these down, provided they steal them for their own site first)

I remember when I was young,
Schoolyard games of fun.
A rainbow made of every mother’s son.
No one cared where you were from,
As long as you had come
To play until the day was done.
So when is it we learn how fiery crosses burn?
Who teaches us to hate?

It’s a long hard road to the Promised Land,
When you fear in your heart what you don’t understand.
You can’t see the light with your head in the sand.
It’s a bad seed to sow.

Through the eyes of a child,
Before anything’s been filed,
To fill them with prejudice and hate,
See the intolerance that’s piled
Higher than a mile
And tear it down before it’s too late.

When does it sink in, the color of your skin?
Who gives us the right?

It’s a long hard road to the Promised Land,
When you fear in your heart what you don’t understand.
You can’t see the light with your head in the sand.
It’s a bad seed to sow.

So when is it we learn how fiery crosses burn?
Who teaches us to hate?

It’s a long hard road to the Promised Land,
When you fear in your heart what you don’t understand.
You can’t see the light with your head in the sand.
It’s a bad seed to sow.

It’s a long hard road to the Promised Land,
When you fear in your heart what you don’t understand.
You can’t see the light with your head in the sand.
It’s a bad seed to sow.

A bad seed to sow.
A bad seed to sow.
A bad seed to sow.

The date on the Bombshellshocked insert says 2001. Eric Stuart’s a Brooklyn boy. And I don’t think I’ll ever be able to thank him enough for writing this song. It’s ended up taking on an unusual meaning for me, since I shared it with someone from Morocco who was absolutely amazed I didn’t hate him the moment he told me he is Muslim.

Before I go down that road for the fifth time this week… Just enjoy the lyrics.
